A couple of weeks later I was returning to Mississippi and the noise was particularly bad. I was frankly afraid to start out that morning (same sound but more of it). I once again stopped by Washington Aligment and once again Larry test drove the car, put it BACK up on the rack and did everything possible to ensure there were no loose parts anywhere. Finding nothing that he could mend he offered the suggestion that it might be a strut but assured me the car was safe to drive back to my mechanic at home where the struts could dealt with. Helen, the owner, again insisted there was no charge for their observations.
The next week I was in Washington and took the car to Washington Alignment on referral from another business. The time and care Larry took to investigate the mystery were really thorough, though he could not find the source of the noise either. He did grease some bushings on the possibility that the age of the car left them dry. There was no charge for his efforts.
These folks get my highest praise and deepest thanks for their care. When I return to the area they will get ALL my business and my husband's.
My Pontiac Montana recently developed a clatter that seemed to be associated with one or more wheels. I was in Odon at the time and took it to a local mechanic who test-drove the car, put it up on the rack and was unable to locate the source of the noise.
